Locket Ring

CPAN Project (Consolider-Ingenio 2010) brought to Spain a traveling exhibition of outdoor photographs taken by Peter Ginter on the work of construction of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and its detectors in CERN (Switzerland). Buried 100 meters underground in the French-Swiss border, the LHC is a locket ring of 27 km where tiny particles collide in the center of four huge detectors. These high precision tools reveal what happens in the moment when the particles collide, illuminating the mysteries of matter and the universe. For over 20 years, scientists, institutes and industries in the four corners of the globe have designed, built and assembled the instruments scientists an unprecedented scale. This is the great human and scientific adventure that Peter Ginter recounts in his photographs: an adventure that takes place in a setting where science transcends borders, where accuracy goes hand in hand with the immensity, where technology and rhymes with beauty . . . . Peter Ginter (Germany, 1958) has carried out dozens of photographs for German and international prestigious magazines (GEO, Stern, Paris Match, Life, National Geographic). He has won five World Press Awards and the Gold Medal Art Director's Club for his work illustrating various scientific fields. Fascinated by the beauty of particle physics, has become a famous photographer scientist. Its flagship project dedicated to the CERN accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), began in 2000 and has taken him around the world, visiting not only CERN but other collaborating laboratories in Germany, Pakistan, Russia, Spain and U. S. Through his camera, the huge particle physics instruments become works of art with the human being always occupied a central position, thus revealing the beauty locked in science and the human adventure that is hidden in it. . .
